The symposium Cultural Resistance in the GDR centers on the launch of UR Tacheles, the new book by musician and co-founder of the legendary art space Tacheles, Rafael Insunza. The publication serves as a starting point for a broader reflection on artistic resistance in the GDR during this evening.

The program also features a screening of Fragments of Yesterday (2025), a documentary by Jan Henselders that focuses on Leo Kondeyne, a key figure in the original occupation and later founding of the Tacheles cultural center.

Afterwards, Rafael Insunza, Michaela van den Driesch, Managing Director at Kunstforum Biennale Lausitz and photographer Harald Hauswald, co-founder of the OSTKREUZ agency, explore in a panel discussion how art, music, and photography became acts of opposition and cultural self-assertion within a repressive system.
