Join us for the Migration in Flow: Hip Hop and Germany panel by Fotografiska x Refuge Worldwide. At a time of heightened xenophobia and populism, our panelists will talk about ways migrants were able to carve out their own space and identity in Germany, from the arrival of the Gastarbeiters in the 60s, all the way to today.
Joining us are hip hop stage members Tachi MC, Katja Kuhl, and Ebow. Tachi MC, a German-Turkish rap pioneer, is known for political themes, like his track "Ahmet Gündüz.” Katja Kuhl, a renowned director and photographer, has captured iconic hip hop artists and is featured in Hip Hop: Conscious, Unconscious. Ebow, a Kurdish-German rapper, addresses issues of anti-racism, feminism, and migration in her music. The panel will be moderated by Shayan Navab, music journalist and Refuge Worldwide resident, who explores immigrant identity and diaspora through hip-hop.
Following the panel discussion, NASHI44 and Ebow will take the stage. NASHI44, a Viet-German rapper from Neukölln, embodies her motto, "ASIAN BERLIN PUSSY POWER," delivering empowering rap that amplifies marginalized voices. The work of NASHI44 and Ebow captures the essence of cultural resilience and creative expression, reflecting the ongoing journey of migrant communities in shaping Germany's hip-hop landscape.
This event is in collaboration with Refuge Worldwide.
