Layla by Lennart Brede
Film Screening
In his new short film, Berlin-based filmmaker Lennart Brede follows the neighborhood exploits of seven-year-old Layla from Kreuzberg. On her journey through her neighborhood, she meets familiar faces. She confronts everyday conflicts and the racism of the kids with great courage and a "fairylike" lightness. Layla observes a lot and still perceives the world with childlike curiosity and imagination. Around her, however, the tough life rages, with all that goes with it.
This screening will be the first time that the film will be shown in Berlin, after garnering prizes and nominations at film festivals such as WorldFest in Houston, TX, USA, and Germany's Goldener Spatz festival.
After the screening, there will be a Q&A with Brede and cast so make sure to stick around for added insight.
