EX YOU

Who were you before the world put labels on you—and tried to define you? In EX YOU, Bosnian artist Šejla Kamerić explores themes of identity, memory, and resilience. What does it mean to be “exed” from history, from belonging, from one’s own body? Kamerić’s work is raw, intimate, and unfiltered. It does not whisper; it demands to be felt.

Born in Yugoslavia, her life and artistic vision have been profoundly shaped by the war and its aftermath—by displacement, survival, discrimination, and the relentless negotiation of selfhood in a patriarchal world that insists on defining us across generations. Her art carries the weight of personal memory and collective history, transforming trauma into testimony.

Through striking photography and immersive installations, EX YOU transforms Fotografiska into a living, breathing space of dialogue and self-reflection. EX YOU is not just an exhibition; it’s an act of reclamation. A space to confront the identities we have inherited, unearth those imposed upon us and rediscover the ones we choose to embrace.

The Body As Sculpture

Have you ever looked at your body and imagined it as something else – a shape, a form, a sculpture? The Body As Sculpture invites you to break free from rigid beauty standards. Through self-portraits, sculpture and surrealist collages, Sassen deconstructs and reshapes the human body to embrace its infinite forms - highlighting the connection between outer and inner transformation.
