MAOTIK

In Search of Equilibrium, 2023

Light installations in front of Fotografiska Berlin's front window.

IN SEARCH OF EQUILIBRIUM – until December 31

In Search of Equilibrium explores the delicate balance that exists in nature, society and our own lives. The artwork uses rhythmic, generative shapes to show how real harmony comes from the interaction of opposing forces. The wandering lines that move across the panels in smooth, wave-like patterns symbolize our ongoing search for balance. Yet, the small irregularities and curves in the designs remind us that true perfection is impossible. This reflects the natural, ever-changing rhythms that shape the world around us.

BIOGRAPHY

Mathieu Le Sourd, also known as MAOTIK, is a French digital artist specializing in the creation of immersive environments, interactive installations and audiovisual performances which explore the boundaries between art, science and technology.

MAOTIK holds a Bachelor's degree in Digital Media Production from the London College of Communication in London and a Master's Degree in Digital Arts from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. He creates immersive environments through the use of computer-generated algorithms, transforming perceptions of reality in real time with his self-designed generative tools. His approach to generative art is defined by a focus on the movement and fluidity of images, rather than their aesthetic form. He draws inspiration from nature, representing its essence in an abstract manner through the creation of audiovisual sculptures that are rooted in randomness and are unique and unrepeatable.

In recent years, his work has been showcased at a number of international festivals and institutions, including Mutek, Sonar, Oi Futuro in Rio, Art Basel, Frieze London, FIAC Paris, Signal Festival in Prague, BFI in London, ARS Electronica in Linz, Miraikan Science Museum in Tokyo, B39 in Seoul, Funkhaus in Berlin and Philharmonie in Paris.
